Sept. 11, 2018

Dear Mizzou community,

In commemoration of 9/11, I want to recognize the extraordinary emergency personnel who serve our campus, our state and the nation. Please take a moment today to stop and thank those individuals who keep us safe 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Like these extraordinary individuals, the University of Missouri holds its civic responsibility in high regard. Through MU Extension, we help train Missouri’s emergency personnel to ensure that communities across the state have the resources and safeguards they need. We know that the health and well-being of every Missouri household is the top priority. I’m proud to be a part of an institution that is committed to giving back to this state and to those individuals who give the most.

Mizzou alumna wins Pickering Fellowship on her path to becoming U.S. diplomat

After taking an Arabic class her freshman year, Mizzou alumna and former student-athlete Taylor Cofield found a passion for the Middle East. Along with her interest in foreign affairs and diplomacy, that passion helped Taylor win both a prestigious Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship and a Harry S. Truman Scholarship, taking her one step closer toward her planned career with the U.S. State Department.

New partnership with national defense center will help Mizzou community bolster the nation’s defense

A new partnership with the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division of Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) gives students, faculty and researchers the interdisciplinary resources and opportunities needed to help advance national-security developments. Tigers across many disciplines will be able to work on cutting-edge research and design — on projects like naval aviation aircraft and weapons systems — further supporting MU’s long-standing relationship with the U.S. Department Defense.

MUPD trains hard to keep campus safe

The University of Missouri Police Department has one of the toughest jobs: keeping our campus community safe every second of every day. That’s why MUPD spent three days this June dressed in tactical gear and sweeping buildings across campus as they prepared for the kind of active threat they hope Mizzou never sees.
