Dear university community,

The horrific events in Louisiana and Minnesota a few days ago were a tremendous tragedy, and last night that tragedy was multiplied by the attack on law enforcement officers who were selflessly protecting the safety and security of those who rallied in support in Dallas. Like you, I am grieving over this senseless loss of life from all three events. It has to stop.

Today at 1:00 p.m., I encourage our university community to observe a moment of silence for Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, as well as the fallen and injured Dallas police officers, and their families. May we continue to seek wisdom, peace and understanding as we come together as a university community in Columbia that strives to do better for all people, and let the work we do at Mizzou unite us in an effort to help heal our nation at this incredibly difficult time. There are multiple upcoming events in our community supporting racial justice and healing.
